Singer Sabrina Carpenter recently spoke about the buzz surrounding her latest album cover ‘Man’s Best Friend’ explaining that the imagery was meant to tell a deeper story about relationships and personal control.

The 26-year-old artist faced strong reactions earlier this year when the cover was revealed, showing her on all fours, with her hair being pulled by a faceless figure. While some called it provocative, Sabrina says the artwork reflects her own experiences.

“It was about how people try to control women, and how I felt emotionally yanked around by these relationships that I had,” she told ‘Variety’, via ‘FemaleFirst’. “It was about recognising the power you give to others and reclaiming it.”

Sabrina admitted that she understands why the image sparked debate. “It meant one thing to me and 100 things to other people. And I was like, ‘That’s valid. Mine’s valid. What’s for dinner?’” she laughed.

Known for blending humour with candid reflections on love and intimacy, Sabrina often uses her platform to challenge expectations; something that surprises some fans given her wholesome beginnings as a child actor in ‘Girl Meets World’.

“I think some people are still attached to that image of me as a kid. But I can’t help that I started working at 12 and now I’m evolving as a person and an artist,” she said.

Despite her playful and sometimes risqué lyrics, Sabrina is clear that she has personal boundaries. “People think, ‘Oh, she’ll say and do anything.’ But that’s not true. I do have limits. You’d be surprised,” she explained. “I’m just living my life, and people are watching. If it resonates with you, awesome. If not, that’s fine too.”
